Robertson Sports Clinic is led by Steven Robertson Cox, a qualified Soft Tissue Therapist with a strong foundation in Strength and Conditioning (Level 4) and a growing specialisation in exercise-based rehabilitation. Steven combines clinical skill with lived experience, bringing a unique, grounded approach to recovery, performance, and long-term well-being.
Meet Steven
Hi, I’m Steven, the therapist behind the clinic. My journey into sports therapy and rehabilitation comes from two powerful influences:
Twelve years of military service, where discipline, resilience, and physical readiness were non-negotiable.Personal experience with neurological recovery, after supporting my wife through her rehabilitation following an ischaemic stroke. Both experiences shaped the way I work today: with focus, empathy, and a deep respect for the physical and mental challenges people face during recovery.
Clinical Background & Expertise
I’m a qualified Soft Tissue Therapist, a member of the Sports Massage Association (SMA), and currently expanding my clinical practice through advanced study in sports therapy and rehabilitation.
My current academic focus centres on post-stroke rehabilitation, specifically how soft tissue therapy and structured exercise can support individuals during long-term recovery. Stroke often leads to changes in muscle tone, mobility, and functional movement, and my work explores how hands-on therapy can improve comfort, reduce stiffness, and support better movement patterns during rehabilitation.
Soft tissue therapy can play a valuable role post-stroke by helping to:
Improve joint mobilityReduce muscle tension and discomfortSupport neural recovery through enhanced sensory inputPromote better movement quality and confidenceComplement physiotherapy and exercise-based rehabilitationThis research informs my approach in the clinic, allowing me to provide supportive, evidence-informed treatment for individuals rebuilding strength, mobility, and daily function after a stroke.
Hands-On Experience
I currently serve as a Sports Therapist with Biggar Rugby FC, delivering pitch-side support, injury management, and recovery treatments to athletes throughout the season. This role sharpens my practical skills and keeps me grounded in real-world performance demands - experience I bring directly back to the clinic.
Therapeutic Philosophy
My goal is simple:
Help people move better, recover faster, and feel stronger both physically and mentally.
I take a straightforward, evidence-based approach to treatment, combining soft tissue therapy, exercise prescription, and strength principles to deliver meaningful, measurable progress.
Looking Ahead
As the clinic continues to grow, my long-term vision is to develop a dedicated rehabilitation and wellness centre in South Lanarkshire; a place where soft tissue therapy, strength training, neurological rehab, and performance services come together under one roof.
Until then, Robertson Sports Clinic remains committed to providing high-quality, personalised treatment to everyone who walks through the door, from athletes to individuals rebuilding after injury or illness.
Recover. Perform. Excel.
It’s the standard I set for myself and every client I work with.
